India is country of festivals and colourful events owing to it’s religious and regional variations . The Indian Lunar calendar which starts its first month of the year as "Chitra" - March / April - (harvesting month for India ), is one long procession of festivals dedicated to various deities, saints, prophets and also seasons. . Each festival is unique in style and is characterised by colour, gaiety, enthusiasm, feasts and prayers and rituals. Many of these festivals are common to most parts of India, though they are called by different names and celebrated in a different style, in the various parts of the country
